Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). Are you trying to figure out which way to go, what to do next, or how to find your purpose? Jesus said in his word that he would give us direction. I know that when we are desperate for help, or trying to find our way, it seems as though we always hear the same cliche, “Jesus is the way.” However, it really is true! He will provide a way! God wants us to keep our eyes on him for direction and empowerment. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
How do we get direction and guidance from God? By spending time with him! It’s just like sitting with a friend and asking for some help. We call our friends on the phone and run our ideas and thoughts by them for their input. Well, God wants us to do the same thing with him! He loves us so much that He sent his only son to die for our sins (John 3:16). Without the death of Jesus we could not have a relationship with our Father because of our sin. Sin is darkness, and darkness cannot stand in the light. Anyone with sin, that tries to come before our Holy God, dies.
The death of Jesus made it possible for us to have intimate conservation with God. If you are not accustom to sitting with God it may seem a little awkward and uncomfortable at first, but God will meet you right where you are and provide comfort. You will need to be prepared when you go to Jesus. You should always have your Bible, pen and paper with you. When you are seeking God for direction, be prepared for him to give you an answer. He may have you read a certain passage from the Bible, drop some thoughts in your heart, or give you some direction to help solve your problems. You don’t want to miss what he has to say, or forget the direction he gives you!
When you are sitting alone in your prayer area, start reading scriptures of praise to God. The word teaches us that we are to Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and come unto his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4 When you read God’s word, he always responds to his word! After you have spent time with God you will know which direction to take because of the peace that you will have inside. To help lead you into your petitions, I have listed some scriptures below:
