As I was meditating on the word Monday morning the Holy Spirit gave me this scripture, “God’s favor surrounds me like a shield” (Psalm 5:12 KJV). I’m suppose to meditate on it all week and today is Thursday and now I understand why.
When I read the passage on Monday, the first thing I did was look up the word “favor”. Favor means, according to Google Search, approval, support, or liking for someone or something and its synonyms are: approbation, goodwill, kindness, benevolence, patronage, backing, support, assistance; “you shall receive the king’s favor”.
Wasn’t that so predictable, focusing on the word favor when all along I should have been focused on the word shield. Shield means, according to Merriam-Webster, to defend, protect, shield, guard or safeguard; to keep secure from danger or against attack. To defend denotes warding off actual or threatened attacks; to protect implies the use of something (such as a covering) as a bar to the admission or impact of what may attack or injure, to shield suggests protective intervention in imminent danger or actual attack, to guard implies protecting with vigilance and force against expected danger, and to safeguard implies taking precautionary protective measures against merely possible danger.
The favor of God is always so much more than we could ever think or imagine. The favor of God surrounds me like a shield not only showing me kindness, goodwill and support but the protection of God’s guards me and my love ones from danger and covers us from any threatened attacks…WOW! Praise God.
We go about our day assuming all is well but we have no idea of the intervention that has happened in our lives because of God’s favor. When you go about your day today think about the protection of God. It is the greatest favor of all.
