What Does It Mean To Meditate?
When God gave Joshua the responsibility that once belong to Moses, He not only elevated him but he also gave Joshua everything he needed to be successful. You see God will never put you somewhere that you cannot succeed…NEVER. You may put yourself in that situation but God never wants to see His children fail…isn’t that what you would do for your children? So God gave Joshua very specific instructions. He told him to “Meditate on my words day and night.”
King James Bible
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
New International Version
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
The bible says prosperity comes when we “meditate day and night” on the word of God and then we will have good success.
- to think deeply or focus one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation.
think deeply or carefully about (something). Synonyms: contemplate, think, consider, ponder, muse, reflect, deliberate, ruminate, chew the cud, brood, mull something over…to meditate.
To meditate is more than just reading the word. It means to take what you read and think about it (day and night), rolling it around in your mind (over and over); to ponder, wonder and envision what God’s message is to you and for you; to have a deep love and affection for God’s words, even if you don’t completely understand it. To manifest all that God has for us we must devote constant attention to His words…like you do your favorite TV show. You need quiet time with God. Time alone to reflect on the direction you receive from Him.
Achieving Your Goals and Objectives.
When I was in the corporate world and I received my new goals and objectives for the year from my boss, I would study them closely. I would develop an action plan on how I was going to get all of my direct reports to buy into their new goals. My action plan also included how they would sell the new goals to their teams. I would create an in-depth presentation for my managers and hold a two day off site strategic planning session. Then, I would hold a 1/2 day town hall meeting for the entire division.
I would carry my goals and objectives around with me in my note pad “every day”, for an entire year. I did this so I could reflect on them and keep them front and center. I discussed them every month with my managers and every quarter I would schedule a special update session to find out their challenges and successes, to ensure they were still on point to achieve “our” goal by year end. I was driven because you see there were huge bonuses, stock options, trips and executive recognition waiting if I achieved my goals and there was “no way” I was going to miss out on the financial prosperity of making my corporate objective. And let me tell you, it works!
So, imagine if you did this with the word. What if you developed an action plan and begin telling everyone you came into contact with about meeting the goals and objectives that God has for you? What if you develop an in-depth presentation on how you plan to do it? What if you held accountability sessions or updates with your closest family and friends on your progress?
There is more than just a financial prosperity benefit for walking in your purpose and destiny. God’s reward is life and it last for an eternity. I don’t know about you but I don’t plan to let anything or anyone stand in my way of achieving my goal of eternal life. Will you achieve your goal?
