Therefore be glad (exult), O heavens and you that dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in fierce anger (fury) because he knows that he has [only] a short time [left]! Revelation 12:12
I love the study of Revelation because Jesus is revealing to us what is to come and what has happened in the past. I read the chapter listed above in my quiet time and I really enjoyed it. I was able to find a wonderful study that went along with the reading that gave clear understanding to the scripture.
However, this morning was a struggle to get out of bed and have quiet time. I went to bed early to make sure I could get up on time. I was so disappointed that my body was really tired. I even had to repeat the Our Father Prayer at least three times to get it right. My focus was just not there and I was becoming frustrated. Then God reminded me of the verse above and the study I had completed on that chapter. In this chapter the bible is explaining how Satan was thrown out of the heaven and into the earth.
Satan and his angels challenged God in heaven and they lost. So Satan thought he would beat God by deceiving Jesus and again he lost. After which Satan was tossed out of heaven with a third of the angels who decided to follow him and they are now down here on the earth and sea. Notice the scripture he is after us with a fierce angry. He wants to destroy everyone and anyone who is saved and seeking our Father.
The reason why things seem so difficult sometimes when it comes to prayer, study, or doing anything that aligns with the scripture is because Satan and his angels are working overtime to shut that down. Have you noticed how easy it is to pick-up a magazine and read or watch a movie…but when it comes to reading the bible, going to church or even listening to a message online you get distracted with other things or even fall asleep. These are tactics Satan uses to get us as far away from God as possible.
I love that God understands our heart and the struggle that we are up against. He sent His Holy Spirit to be with us and help us John 14:26. He also told us to give Him thanks in everything 1Thessalonians 5:18. I have found that when I am trying to study the word or focus in prayer and distractions comes I begin to say Lord thank you for the distraction, thank you that I am tired, thank you that when I open the bible I get confused or sleepy, thank you for being my helper and you will get me through this. Thank you for knowing my heart and you understand that I am seeking you. I do this because God says to do it 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and you know what happens, I begin to have a conversation with God. I am no longer focused on the distractions I am in fellowship with God. Even though the devil is trying to stop me and make me feel guilty as I begin to thank God my situation changes.
The next time you get frustrated or disappointed about your time with God 1) Begin to thank God for the distraction 2) Tell Satan to get under your feet, you have already won the battle when you said Yes to Jesus Christ 3) Know you have a massive army of angels fighting on your behalf 4) know that you are pleasing God because you are seeking Him and 5) We win because Jesus has already overcome the earth!
